My Story

Space Ranger Fred began as a spark of imagination in 2012 when author Matt Newnham jotted down a simple idea about a boy who travels the galaxy, solving problems with science and kindness. Inspired by his love of space, technology, and storytelling, Matt developed the concept into a fun, educational adventure aimed at children aged 7 to 12.

In 2015, the first Space Ranger Fred book was published, delighting readers with its humour, vibrant illustrations, and STEM-inspired plot. Two more books followed, each expanding Fred’s universe and introducing new characters, challenges, and valuable lessons. The books quickly earned praise for their ability to make learning exciting and accessible, encouraging curiosity and creativity in young readers.

Now, Fred’s story is going intergalactic. With a talented global team, Space Ranger Fred is being adapted into a ground-breaking animated TV pilot. The animation is being brought to life by the award-winning Lightyears Animation studio in Cape Town, South Africa. An all-star voice cast, including actors from children’s TV and film, is already lined up. A BAFTA award-winning composer will create the score, and top STEM experts are contributing to make sure the content is both educational and inspiring.

To launch this project and reach screens around the world, we’re raising $300,000 through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
